How to Find Corps Members Travelling to the Same NYSC Camp as You

The moment your call-up letter shows your state of deployment, one question follows: who else is going there from my city? Travelling with other prospective corps members makes the journey safer, cheaper and a lot less stressful — and you arrive at camp already knowing a few faces.

This guide explains how to find people going to the same camp and how to organise the trip once you do.

Why travel together?

• Safety. Groups are less vulnerable on the road and at motor parks. The NYSC itself advises corps members to avoid night journeys and to board only at designated motor parks — a group makes it easier to stick to both.
• Cost. A group can share a taxi from the motor park to the camp gate, or charter a vehicle for the whole trip.
• Help with luggage. Someone can watch your bags while you buy a ticket or find the restroom.
• Friends on day one. Camp is easier when you already know someone.

Step 1: Know exactly where you are going

Your call-up letter names your state of deployment. Each state has one orientation camp, and they are often outside the state capital — Lagos camp is at Iyana Ipaja, Rivers camp at Nonwa-Gbam in Tai, Bayelsa camp in Boro Town, Kolokuma/Opokuma. Step 2: Find people leaving from your city

Step 3: Agree the plan early

Once you have a group, agree the details a few days before you travel:

1. Meeting point — a specific designated motor park, and a specific spot inside it.
2. Departure time — early enough to arrive in daylight.
3. Transport — one bus for everyone, or a shared taxi for the final stretch.
4. Costs — how you will split any shared transport, agreed before anyone pays.
5. Contacts — everyone's phone number, and one person at home who has the group's details.

Keep group conversations on the platform or a group chat, and meet in public places.

Step 4: Travel smart on the day

• Arrive at the park early and wait together.
• Keep your call-up letter and documents in your hand luggage.
• Share the vehicle's registration number with family.
• Stay together from the park to the camp gate and through registration if you can.
