NYSC Camp Documents Checklist: Originals and Photocopies to Carry

Clothes can be bought and toiletries borrowed, but missing documents can stop your registration at camp. This checklist focuses only on paperwork: what to carry, what to copy and how to protect it.

Always read the instructions printed on your call-up letter and any notice from your state NYSC secretariat — they are the final word for your camp.

The essentials

• Your printed call-up letter. Print at least one clean copy. See how to print your NYSC call-up letter.
• Your credentials and identification, as requested for camp registration.
• Passport photographs with a white background — bring spares.

For foreign-trained graduates

The NYSC is explicit here. Foreign-trained prospective corps members who registered online must bring all original documents uploaded during registration, plus a translated version of the certificate where applicable. They must also be verified by the Verification Officer before leaving camp for any reason — the NYSC warns that failure to comply leads to cancellation of registration and no posting to a place of primary assignment.

For medical graduates

Prospective corps members in the medical professions are expected to bring their practising licences to the orientation camp.

For concessional posting cases

If you were granted concessional posting on marital or health grounds, bring copies of the documents you uploaded — for example your marriage certificate or hospital medical report — in case they are needed.

Photocopies and backups

For every document above:

• make two photocopies
• keep originals and copies in separate folders
• save scans on your phone and email them to yourself

If a bag goes missing, backups make recovery much easier.

How to carry your documents

• Use a waterproof folder or zip bag.
• Keep it in your hand luggage, never in the boot of a bus.
• Do not hand original documents to anyone except camp officials during registration.
