Documents Required for NYSC Registration: A Complete Checklist

NYSC online registration windows are short, and the portal is busiest on the last few days. The easiest way to avoid stress is to have everything ready before the window opens. This checklist is based on the NYSC's own registration guidance.

Before registration: the checks

1. Confirm your name is on your institution's list. For locally-trained graduates, the NYSC says only those whose names appear on the Senate/Academic Board approved result lists submitted by their institutions can register. It advises Nigeria-trained graduates to verify that their details are correct on the NYSC portal's senate list verification page before registering.

2. Check your details carefully. Name spelling and order, course of study, class of degree, qualification and date of birth all flow into your records. Fixing them early is far easier than later.

3. Have a functional email address. You will create your NYSC account with it and activate the account from a link sent to it. Use an address you control and check regularly.

4. Know your correct matriculation number. The NYSC notes that locally-trained prospective corps members are expected to register with their correct institution matriculation numbers.

What you need during registration

• A clean, clear passport photograph with an off-white background to upload
• Your signature — scanned, or signed with a digital signature scanner
• Yourself, in person, for biometric capture. The NYSC is clear that biometric capture should not be done by proxy
• Your personal and academic details, typed carefully

At the end, preview your form, agree to the terms and conditions, submit and keep your login details — you will need them to print your call-up letter and use other dashboard services.

Documents for concessional posting

The NYSC allows concessional posting on marital or health grounds, requested during online registration.

Marital ground (married female prospective corps members who want to be posted to their husband's state of domicile) — upload:

• a copy of your marriage certificate
• evidence of change of name and your husband's place of domicile
• your husband's means of identification (for example, driving licence or national ID card)

Health ground — indicate your true health status during registration and upload:

• a medical report from a Federal or State General Hospital
• your doctor's details

Foreign-trained graduates

Foreign-trained graduates go through pre-camp physical verification of credentials on the dates in the mobilisation timetable, and the NYSC requires them to bring all original documents uploaded online, plus a translated version of the certificate where applicable, to camp.

Part-time graduates

The NYSC's FAQ says part-time graduates should also register when the portal opens, so that they can print their exclusion letter from their dashboard.
